Does the Manta Backpack provide enough buoyancy to replace a life jacket?
The backpack provides approximately 3.5 kg of positive buoyancy, which offsets the submerged weight of the internal battery and motor electronics. However, this buoyancy is NOT sufficient to float a person and is NOT a certified life jacket or flotation device. Always wear a USCG/CE approved life jacket or impact vest when required by local watersports regulations.
What happens during a wipeout? Will the power cable tear or damage my gear?
The system is specifically engineered for wipeout safety. The included coiled leash is designed to be shorter than the umbilical power cable. When you fall, all tensile force is absorbed by the heavy-duty leash, preventing any strain on the electrical cable or connectors. Furthermore, the cable is encased in a Velcro sleeve that routes it away from the spinning propeller.
Why MUST I use the included custom short screws for the mast interface plate?
CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: Standard mast mounting screws from your board or foil are too long for the backpack interface plate and track system. Using standard long screws will bottom out, cracking the tracks or piercing the internal power cable. Only use the custom short M6/M8 screws provided in your backpack hardware kit.
How should I clean and maintain the electrical connectors?
Before every session, re-apply a light coat of dielectric marine contact grease to all power plugs and connectors, including the junction between the interface plate and motor cable. After each saltwater session, thoroughly rinse the backpack and all connectors with fresh water to prevent salt crystallization, and allow the neoprene harness to dry completely before storing in the included mesh transport bag.
Is the backpack compatible with third-party foil drives like Foil Drive™?
Yes! When purchasing your kit, select the FD configuration. This package includes the dedicated Foil Drive interface connector cable, allowing you to mount your Foil Drive Assist or Assist MAX unit directly into the backpack and connect seamlessly to your mast setup.
What should I do if my motor or throttle fails to deliver power on startup?
First, verify that your wireless remote is powered on, paired, and has sufficient charge. Second, inspect the umbilical cable connector to ensure it is pushed fully into the interface plate socket with the locking ring securely threaded. Third, inspect the male and female prongs for any sand, salt, or moisture; clean thoroughly and re-apply dielectric contact grease.
